Daily news is a term used to describe the news that is published each day. It can include anything from a small local story to a major national event. Most newspapers publish daily news in addition to other types of content such as sports, entertainment and opinion. In the past, people would record the daily news in a diary or write it down on a piece of paper. Nowadays, people can access the daily news on their mobile phones and computers.
The Yale Daily News is the nation’s oldest college newspaper, publishing Monday through Friday during the academic year. It is financially and editorially independent. Its alumni have gone on to prominent careers in journalism and public life, including William F. Buckley, Lan Samantha Chang, John Hersey, Joseph Lieberman, Sargent Shriver, Paul Steiger and Garry Trudeau. The paper also publishes special issues throughout the year celebrating Yale’s diversity and community.
In its earliest days, the Daily News was known for its zesty headlines, city coverage and celebrity gossip. Over the years, it has earned the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for uncovering how authorities abused an obscure law to evict hundreds of low-income families from their homes and the Pulitzer for Breaking News Photography for capturing a shooting at a high school in Newtown, Connecticut. The Daily News is also renowned for its columnists, most notably Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill.
Rhonda Prast is the News Editor of Cascadia Daily News, overseeing all day-to-day operations and managing staff. Previously, she was the Assistant Managing Editor for Investigations and Projects at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, where she worked on several investigative stories that garnered national attention and won numerous awards. Prior to that, she served as a reporter at the Palm Beach Post, where she covered crime, government and education. During her time there, she led a series of investigations that resulted in convictions and fines totaling over $1 million.
In addition to writing, editing and designing daily news articles, she works with her colleague Audra Schroeder on editorial projects for CDN. She recently moved back to Bellingham after a stint in Wahpeton, North Dakota, where she worked as a reporter and then as the newspaper’s Assistant Managing Editor. She is thrilled to be back in a town with more than one egg benedict option and to be working for a paper she loves. Outside of work, she runs a polymer clay earring business, makes odd paintings and belts weeknight karaoke at local bars.
