Daily News
The New York City Daily News is an American newspaper that has been published since 1855. The News is one of the oldest newspapers in the United States and, at its peak, was the second largest newspaper in the world. The paper has a long and distinguished history, including the reporting of many major events of national importance. It is currently owned by Tronc, a media company that also owns The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune and other major newspapers in the United States and internationally.
While print circulation has declined in recent years, digital subscriptions have been relatively stable, according to a report by the Center for the Study of the American Press. As a result, digital revenues have kept the News solvent while ad dollars shift to online advertising, which can offer greater reach and higher prices than traditional print ads.
In addition to its daily print edition, the Daily News website publishes a weekly online supplement known as WKND and a special issue each year celebrating the Yale community, such as the “Yale-Harvard Game Day Issue” and the “Commencement Issue.” The site also hosts a wide variety of events and features original online video content.
A number of the newspaper’s writers and editors have gone on to careers in journalism and public life, including William F. Buckley, Lan Samantha Chang, John Hersey, Joseph Lieberman, Sargent Shriver, Paul Steiger, and others. The News has been financially and editorially independent since its founding on January 28, 1878, making it the oldest college daily newspaper in the country.
The Daily News has a liberal media bias rating of Left, which indicates that the newspaper promotes liberal thought and policy agendas. It is the most liberal rated news source in the AllSides media database.
